Step onto the golden sands of Playa Guiones, to the south of us, reachable through a maintained network of nature trails that the property backs on to.  This surf destination will energize your soul.  National Geographic has claimed it as  one of the best in the world with consistent breaks, a 7km swimmable beach, and tide pools at each end.

Playa Pelada, a set of three horseshoe bays, is our favourite in Costa Rica and provides for great beach days. Swim, relax, read, explore bat caves, marvel at the tidal pools during low tide and enjoy the spectacular blow hole during the transition to high tide.

Further north you’ll find the remote black-sand of Playa Nosara, where mangroves and diverse wildlife await your discovery. Mainly accessible on kayak or paddleboard through the estuary, when you stop for a dip in the ocean you’ll likely find yourself on a rugged ocean beach all alone.

Playa Ostional, up the coast about 20 minutes by car, is the main beach of the National Wildlife Refuge,  whose main object is to protect and study the nesting sea turtles. At certain times of each month, a multitude of sea turtles (sometimes thousands!) arrive for nesting in the sand, a true nature spectacle called an arribada.
